Dan Hanel is author of the In the Shadow of Diablo historical mystery series — Mystery of the Great Stone House, Death at the Healing Waters, Ghosts of Black Diamond, and Beneath the Tangled Vines. Dan worked in public education for forty years — as an award-winning science teacher when named the Distinguished High School Science Teacher for California, and as an administrator serving the high school, district, and county office levels. Joan Griffin is an author and former writing teacher, and her bestselling adventure memoir celebrating resilience, friendship, and the transformative power of stepping beyond one’s comfort zone is Force of Nature: Three Women Tackle the John Muir Trail (Black Rose Writing 2023). Her forthcoming memoir, Strangers in My Blood, explores the lifelong journey of adoption, identity, and family and is scheduled for publication in 2027. Steven Meadows

Our speaker will be Stephen Meadows on “For the Living; Poetry Reading and Inspiration”

Former Poet Laureate of El Dorado County Stephen Meadows is a Californian poet with roots in both the Ohlone and the pioneer soil of his home state. His poetry books are Releasing the Days (Heyday Books), and Winter Work (Black Lawrence Press). His poems published in anthologies and collections nationwide and internationally include — The Dirt Is Red Here: Art and Poetry from Native California (Heyday Books), and Red Indian Road West: Native American Poetry from California (Scarlet Tanager Books). His poem “For the Living” is included on a bronze plaque along the Embarcadero on San Francisco’s waterfront.
